"Left in a cubicle for hours and then sent home"

About: York Hospital

I have never been to A&E in my life. I went in at 4am as I was in agony and felt desperate. I didn't waste NHS money by calling an ambulance but went in by taxi under my own steam. To their credit, they didn't sit me in the waiting room but took me straight through to a cubicle but that was probably more to do with the department being quiet. Basically I was plonked in a cubicle and given over-the-counter analgesics which I could have taken at home. I was just left there. A doctor did come in after maybe an hour or so and only after I wandered out to ask if anyone was going to be seeing me. I was crying and bent double in pain. After the doctor wandered off I was again left for ages before anyone else came. It is very worrying as I could have collapsed, passed out or anything and it would have been some considerable time before I would have been found. In the end I was given some stronger analgesia and was told that they wouldn't be doing anything else so I was sent home. I only went to A&E because I was in absolute agony. When I know that 90% of the people who go to A&E shouldn't be there at all (high temperature, dental abscess, abrasion etc.) I was less than impressed with the treatment I received. I will not be hurrying back that's for sure.
