My GP sent me to Glasgow Royal Accident & Emergency, with bad dehydration and severe stomach pains. I waited five hours before I saw doctor. I asked nurse could I possibly have pain relief as the pain was unbearable. Nurse said she could not authorise this it had to be doctor but they should not be too long. When the doctor briefly appeared, he did not give me intravenous fluids for dehydration. He felt I was coping without pain relief. He would pop back to see me and decide. He came back two hours later. Still no talk of fluids or pain relief, he discharged me saying he felt what was wrong with me was not serious stomach bug. Possibly he felt I was fit enough to go home. I was shocked but he knew better so I went home. 9pm that night my family called 999. I was rushed to hospital with severe abdominal pain.
£345 pounds was spent on this ambulance call when later on that day. I was in hospital and no tests were done and I was sent home, Thankfully I am here to tell the tale.
I really do understand NHS are overworked and do wonderful jobs but this experience was upsetting. My gp sent me to get checked out so why would I not be sent for tests before discharge? I stayed in hospital for 5 days. I hope I don't experience this again in a hurry.
