About: Nuffield Health, Newcastle - Upon-Tyne Hospital

I am an NHS patient and only once was that drawn to my attention by a porter taking me to xray. (AS an RGN I have never tried to belittle a patient, NHS or private, like that) I had a TKR at the beginning of October. Overall my experience was mostly excellent. I had an excellent consultant and am already almost back to normal now walking without aids and using shopping malls for exercise walks The only things that disturbed me was the total lack of pain management. I was given Mepofam which gave me double vision, nausea and dizziness, I tried to rely only on Paracetamol. I informed staff but it made no difference and I was expected to walk. On discharge I contacted my GP and explained what had gone on and he prescribed Codydramol. An instant improvement. Only one team on nights didnt come up to my nursing standard. I asked for Paracetamol a number of times and told to wait. I eventually got them at 01.00. The next evening I was denied painkillers as I had had 8 tabs in 24 hours. I was denied the medication because the dose at 01.00 was included in the 24 hours. The care assistant on that shift introduced herself to me at 06.30. I didnt see anyone else that night. The rest of the nursing staff were very good, Pain management/one night shift aside my experience at the Nuffield was excellent and I would recommend the hospital
