I had an extensive operation in St George’s hospital, on discharge from the hospital I told them I would be staying with my step-son but then decided to go home where I live alone.
I was not given a lot of guidance when I was discharged, I thought I would manage. However, during the early hours of the morning I was woken to find the catheter had leaked and the bed was wet. I called 111 for advice, they answered the call very quickly and told me they would send a district nurse to see me – I said I would be fine until the morning.
The following morning the nurse came and went through everything with me regarding what I would need to do after the operation. She put me at my ease and was most helpful. The whole sequence of events from making the call to the 111 service to the district nurse leaving was great, I was very reassured to have this support,
