"Treatment for UTI NHS Direct Nottingham"

About: Nottinghamshire County Teaching PCT / Emergency GP out of hours service

(as the patient),

I suffered quite a severe urinary tract infection, for which my GP prescribed antibiotics. After a few days I had to return as they were not working and she prescribed some stronger medication. These did work, but a few days after I started the course, I started to shake uncontrollably. I could not sit still and, when I tried to sleep, my whole body seemed to vibrate violently and I was unable to rest.

We contacted the emergency service and I explained the problem to NHS Direct, who got a doctor to ring me and talk to me. When the problem did not go away, the doctor arranged for me to go to the Emergency out-of-hours doctors on Derby road, Nottingham. The doctor I saw was sympathetic, thorough and caring. She worked out that I was suffering severe hypertension caused by the strong antibiotics, advised me to cut the dose to half and sent all the information to my GP.

I must say that I could not fault any of the help I received - it was excellent, and it immediately made me feel much better!
