"Really happy with care for my Crohn's at UCLH"

About: University College Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

I got ill in September 2008, was referred to UCLH and was seen by a gastro specialist within a month. A month later I had a colonoscopy which confirmed the diagnosis of Crohn's disease in late November 2008.

The colonoscopy was fine, I followed all the instructions closely and was reassured by the doctor before the procedure. During the procedure I was made comfortable and given more sedative when I asked for it. It wasn't painful just a little uncomfortable but interesting to see my intestines on a TV screen!

I was given my diagnosis report and a prescription for anti-inflammatory medication as soon I came round in recovery. I now go back to the clinic every couple of months for my check up, to be weighed, have blood tests done and to talk about how I'm feeling.

The nurses are lovely and all the doctors are great; they listen to what you have to say and are very open to your opinions in trying new medication or using alternative therapies.

I have contacted the IBD nurse several times with questions or to get test results and she is always very supportive and easy to talk to. It's extremely reassuring to know that there is a direct phone number I can call as soon as my symptoms flare up. I am really happy with the care they are giving me.
