"Exceptional care and thoughtfulness"

About: St Peter's Hospital (Chertsey)

My husband was admitted through A&E after I phoned the emergency number 111. He’d been unwell for 2 days with a temperature and chesty cough, when he became incoherent and was incapable of getting out of bed to take his insulin I realised he might be very ill. After answering questions over the ‘phone I was reassured help would be here in 10 minutes, and indeed it was. The paramedics did tests and took him off to hospital where he was finally put into the high dependency unit for 2 days. Although he recovered enough to come home he became ill again during a visit to his GP and returned to hospital again on the 9th to be stabilised, fortunately just for that day. These are the bald facts, but they don’t tell the whole story. During the whole process we were treated with courtesy and caring by everyone involved, from the paramedics whose knowledge, skill and caring amazed me – and even thought to tell me to drive carefully when following them on to A&E - to the nurse who arranged for someone to walk back with me to the deserted car park at midnight, and of course the first doctor in A&E and the consultants and special nurses in the MHDU. Unfortunately we hear too much about the things that go wrong, perhaps we are fortunate living where we do, but I have nothing but the highest of praise for St. Peter’s and its staff.
