I would like to thank all the neonatal midwifery and medical staff at wishaw general neonatal unit. Those midwives and nurses are working under extreme conditions. Their work load is extensive and they always manage to make you feel at easy when you can see how stressful their jobs are.
I understand that parents are told their baby is fine over the phone but these babies are so very fragile things change in an instant which I have witnessed first hand. So although a baby is fine one day or morning does not mean the baby's condition will be the same in the afternoon and may need antibiotics.
A few of the midwives I came close to in the unit while my baby was there work under exceptional conditions and very rarely thanked and are under appreciated. At the end of the day these girls put up with a lot. Their job is extremely emotional and at the end of the day we fail to forget they have to return to their own family and children.
I witnessed a baby die. The midwives, nurses and medical staff worked in vain to try and revive that baby. Once it was over they had pick themselves and care for the other babies and their families. It was very distressing.
