My mother (in her 80s) was taken to A&E, arriving there at approximately 17.30, with severe hip pain.
From the Assessment room, she was sent for an x-ray. The x-ray department, sent her back saying that as she had an x-ray 3 days ago, she didn't need one. This pain had come on since having the last x-ray. The assessment room sent her back to x-ray again. It was eventually decided that she should stay overnight and at approximately 21.30 mum was admitted to the CDU ward.
The staff in the A&E department were very kind to mum, however, from 17.30 to approximately 09.00 the following morning, mum was not given a hot drink, only water, or offered any food. There seemed to be a lack of care on CDU. Mum was asked 3 times if she was cold, although she said yes, no blanket ever appeared.
Mum was admitted because the Doctor on A&E prescribed Tramadol and wanted to be sure mum didn't react to it. She wasn't given Tramadol until the following morning, although they said they were bringing it several times through out the night. Mum was also refused the use of a commode, saying she can walk to the toilet. Mum was there because she couldn't walk, she was in too much pain!
