"Appointment delays for bowel irregularities"

About: Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire

(as the patient),

Over the past 3-4 years my bowel problem has all but taken over my life. After many visits to GP, I was referred to a specialist to check kidneys (both consultant and I were confused by this referral). Finally, in April this year I was referred to colon rectal surgery, however still with no appointment.

As a person whose paternal GF died of stomach cancer, his son of throat cancer and maternal uncle is a survivor of colon cancer, I am much concerned. However, I feel powerless to move things along and have appropriate testing.

My symptoms are continuous diarrhoea then constipation, bloating abdominal pain, serve cramping to the point of collapse. I am exhausted by this condition and frustrated by the lack of medical care. I question why we are urged to look out for symptoms of disease if they are then ignored by the health care profession. The only thing my GP seems interested in is if I’ve started losing weight. My argument is, by that time isn’t it too late?
