"Orthopaedic day surgery"

About: Eastbourne District General Hospital

I had corrective surgery on both feet yesterday. From the moment I arrived in the admissions ward the staff without exception were attentive, knowledgeable, professional, and very friendly. I was lucky enough to be first on the list, so I was swept along through all the procedures necessary - taking blood pressure, making sure the forms were correct, speaking to the registrar who marked the toes to be corrected [very important!], speaking to the doctor who explained exactly what he planned to do and finally the Anaesthetist who made sure he had all my relevant medical history. I barely had time to read the first page of my paper before the porter came to take me to theatre. I woke up in the recovery room with a nurse by my side and there were at all times plenty of staff on hand. Back to the ward for a much needed cup of tea and biscuits [or a sandwich]. Once I was fully awake 2 Physiotherapists came to show me how to use the crutches and took me round to the stairs to explain the best way to get up and down them. Back to the ward where I was given my 'goody' bag of medicines and pain killers, a letter for my GP with a copy for me. A quick call to my friend to pick me up and I was back home by 4pm. A truly wonderful service. If all the NHS were run this way there would never be any complaints. Thank you so much to the whole team on Litlington Ward for making it a rather enjoyable experience!! xx
