"My dad's stroke"

About: Bristol Royal Infirmary / Accident and emergency South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as a relative),

My parents were in Bristol on holiday and on my dad's birthday he had a stroke. We called the ambulance and the paramedic arrived within 10 minutes. His name was Craig and he was brilliant. He immediately calmed my dad down and went straight into doing the necessary tests.

Once they were completed my dad needed to go into hospital for further tests, so he called the larger ambulance to collect him. They also arrived in less than 10 minutes and three additional paramedics.

All of them were so reassuring and efficient at what they did. They even made sure me and my mum got to hospital with them. Whilst we waited for him to have preliminary tests, they kept us informed all the time on how he was getting on and what the doctors were doing.

The service and care provided by both the ambulance service and hospital were incredible. My dad is now on the right mediation and made a full recovery. I have no doubt that this is down to the team which responded to our 999 call this day and we will be forever grateful.

Dear KHClifton

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I am so glad to hear that your Dad has made such a good recovery.

It is always rewarding to hear that our staff are continuing to provide excellent care to our patients, and their families, when they need us most.

I would like to pass your kind comments onto Craig and the ambulance crew who came to your Dad's aid. Would you be able to contact me, laura.martin@swast.nhs.uk or call 01392 453831, at your convenience, with the date and address that the ambulance attended? This would allow me to identify the staff involved and ensure they are recognised for the care they gave.

Thank you again for providing feedback on our service.

Kind regards

Laura

Thank you for taking the time to post a comment on NHS Choices. We are pleased to hear that your Dad has made a full recovery and that his hospital care was so good. A large part of your positive experience was down to the Ambulance crew, and so we have also passed your feedback on to our colleagues at the South West Ambulance Service.
