"Poor communication and delays"

About: Newham General Hospital

Several calls required to arrange appointment for Opthalmology, as no answer. Arrived for appointment 30mins early. Despite appointment letter stating patients will be informed of delays longer than 30mins (from appointment time), I wasn't seen by a nurse until 70mins after appointment time, and then further wait for consultant. No information to patients; others also well past their scheduled appointment. Seemed to be some working relationship pressure between the nursing staff and Dr/consultant/management based on conversations nursing staff having in ear shot of waiting patients. Poor amount of seating in Waiting Area B for Opthalmology, meaning standing was necessary while waiting. Letter asked for medicine & tablets to be brought, but no mention of glasses. As I wear glasses for VDU use primarily, and they are unrelated to the reason for referral, I didn't have them. Nurse put this down as I had forgotten glasses - if you expect patients to bring them, then please advise accordingly. Little concerning staff couldn't get machine lined up with my eyes, and ignoring me stating they're moving it in wrong direction even further from my line of sight. Rest of appointment went smoothly. Follow up appointment requested by consultant is for 12 months time. Appointment given by admin desk is 18 months away. All in all, the visit didn't fill me with confidence, especially compared to what I have seen of Moorfields when accompanying others there.
