"A & E poor standard of cleanliness and bad waiting..."

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

I brought my 10 month old baby grandchil ,into A&E and Registered ,sat down and waited 45 mins until baby was triaged & sent through to Paed A&E. 1 child in bay ,so waited whilst DR went off to ward on call. After 30 mins, couples started coming in with their children. Still no DR but nurse started putting children into bays,( that came long after us as I saw them register in A& E). whilst we still sat pushed further back. DR came back & started seeing children in bays. After 2hrs at 22.05 I stopped a nurse to ask her what the story was with a DR seeing us ? The DR rudely said that I have to wait in queue as all these others were before us? I promptly replied that there was no one here when we came , but the ones that I saw being registered in A&E. after us, where seen long before us? The DR then came back & said we will be next. At 22.15pm 4 junior Drs strolled in & casually started seeing the queue of children. The babies that were crawling on the floor were dirty , as people's shoes were filthy, and Dr & sister kept on stepping over them. Nobody used gloves to see to the children. No Hand sanitizers anywhere in the hospital. No bins to put the refuse that the parents dropped & left lying around. The sister said a new A&E is being made and things will be better? I have brought 4 grandchildren through A&E in the past 13 years. & still nothing has changed. If you have the biggest A&E in the north, Unless you have full qualified Paed staff to look after the children (first priority) then the Fancy A&E will still be understaffed and poorly run.
