"Why does the NHS still use the obsolete London telephone code?"

About: University College Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

I received very courteous treatment at the University College hospital. My one suggestion applies across the NHS. Why do staff persist in using obsolete London telephone number groupings? The London code is now 020, followed by an 8-digit number, which may be used without the code in London. As this has been the case for many years now, it makes the NHS look very old-fashioned, which is not a desirable image.
