"lack of organisation and competence"

About: Kettering General Hospital

I am a regular visitor to the cardiac ward and am dismayed to see the standard of nursing care diminishing. The coronary care bays are generally quite efficient however as soon as you are transferred to Oakley this is not the case. The impression i have is one of discontent by the majority of the competent nursing staff as they are not able to perform their duties as they would like. Drugs are often given very late and no supervision ensuring the patient has taken them. Delays in dealing with the patients angina pain sometimes due to staff shortage and other times due to the nurses having little cardiac experience. It saddens me to write this as I have witnessed excellent care in the past , I appreciate the frustration many of the nurses must feel. However my main concern is the care of my relative and unfortunately I cannot sing the praises of KGH as I used to. Please can independent senior representatives visit Oakley on different occasions, talk to many different staff members, new and old and try and work out what can be done to make this an organised efficient ward worthy of being part of the KGH centre of cardiac excellence the hospital claims to be and one that I can feel confident leaving my relative in. Thank you

Please accept my apologies regarding your relatives care in the Oakley ward and the delay in treatment delivered. Changes have been made over the last few months with further changes planned. We are working closely with the department staff to ensure they are implementing changes and working efficiently. I hope your relative is now well. Should you like to discuss this further, Please contact our Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) on 01536 493306 who can put you through to me directly.
