"They are a great crowd, very kind and caring"

About: South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust

(as a relative),

My husband, aged 91, has had several falls in the last few months, as I’m 81 and have had my knees replaced it is difficult for me to help him get back up. I’ve been told to call 111 when he does have a fall so that a paramedic can help.

On two occasions, both Saturdays when the paramedics are very busy, we had to wait about two hours for the paramedic to arrive – I’ve told my husband he must not fall over on a Saturday!

Other than that they are a great crowd, very kind and caring.

Dear Back390

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I am glad to hear that your found our staff to be kind and caring. Please do not hesitate to call 111 whenever you need assistance, no matter what time or day of the week!

I am sorry you had a little bit of a wait, in a non-emergency situation it can sometimes take us up to 4 hours to get to you. If your husband is frequently falling, we would recommend that you contact his GP to discuss having a fall assessment done. It may be that extra equipment can be supplied to you to help assist your husband’s mobility around the home and help to reduce his risk of falling.

Thank you again for providing feedback on our service.

Kind regards

Laura
