"Chest pain and difficulty breathing whilst 8 months pregnant"

About: North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust / Emergency ambulance Tameside General Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

Was having difficulty breathing so called NHS Direct. I wanted advice to help me sleep as I assumed it was just a bad cold and cough. The advisor asked me a series of questions and explained that my symptoms required a paramedic to be sent which frightened me as prior to this, my only experience with paramedics had been on a first aid course.

The ambulance arrived and the two paramedics began their checks. I was embarrassed as I felt it was unnecessary but they reassured me and told me they suspected infection. They were wonderful, really kind and explained everything. I went in the ambulance and was wheeled to ambulance check-in. The nurse was lovely and quickly assessed me with an ECG, blood sample, temperature & blood pressure. I was put on a nebuliser & given steroids. My breathing improved quickly. The doctor explained everything and gave me a prescription. They were thorough, professional, kind and made me feel safe. 10 out of 10!
