"Contacting surgery to make an appointment"

About: Lancashire

(as the patient),

I rang surgery today, to see if I was able to make an appointment to see my GP as I have been off work for a while and have just had some distressing news (for me it is) as it is a different issue with my health.

I work as part of an admin team myself, so I fully understand how busy a reception can be with visitors and callers and you need to be compassionate and courteous at the same time.

This morning and spoke to a receptionist, who took my call advised me that I needed to ring back nearer the time to make my appointment. I was just about ask her if I could then have a word with my GP when convenient rather than take up an appointment slot, when she made it perfectly obvious that she wanted me off the phone. There was no empathy or understanding of the patient worry or concerns and no life to the tone of her voice either, it seemed as though she didn't want to be answering the phone.
