"Exemplary care"

About: Liskeard Community Hospital

I attended for a wound having caught my thumb with an axe. I have previously attended Derriford A&E over the years and have always found the patient interaction from the admin staff to be impersonal and show a lack of empathy, followed by long waits (in fairness not necessarily the department's fault), for treatment.. My experience at Liskeard today could not have been more different. I was booked in efficiently and then waited in a comfortable, pleasant waiting area (unlike Derriford's). After only a short wait I was seen by a nurse, The injury was discussed with a senior colleague, X-rays organised and taken, and appropriate action taken and advice given. The whole experience was efficient, showed personal empathy and the right balance of informality and professionalism to put you at ease. I have always heard positive comments about the A & E department and my experience has reinforced these.
