Arrived at the unit, greeted immediately, and within moments my prep nurse arrived and escorted me to my allocated bed. My nurse then explained the preparation and talked me through the procedure I was to undergo answering all my questions patiently and in great detail. After changing into hospital garb I was allowed to relax for 5 minutes or more before the consultant performing the planned procedure came to introduce himself and ensure I was fully aware of the plan for my afternoon. Theatre staff nurse then got me to sign permission for procedure and shortly afterwards I was walked into the theatre and everything went ahead. Consultant explained everything as he was doing it as this op was under local anaesthetic. All went smoothly and in what seemed like just a few minutes I was back in my recovery bed and drinking a very welcome cup of hot tea followed by a litre of water or in my case my choice of orange juice. After a little while the consultant came to my bedside and explained what had been found and gave me a personal copy of the findings. It was then just a matter of progressing through the post op checks for a couple of hours before being given the all clear to go home. All in all a very relaxing and professional staff made the experience considerably less frightening than my imagination had envisaged. The whole staff from receptionist to consultant were polite and professional throughout.
