"left waiting with no doctor"

I recently had to attend an appointment with my daughter to the ophthalmology clinic, her appointment was booked for 9am, from many previous appointments I thought I'd I got there early, we might get seen early, so we checked in at 8.45, however this wasn't the case on this particular day, at 9.15, over my daughter's appointment time a nurse came to me and said that the doctor had called in sick and therefore no appointment could be upheld, why this could not have been done once they had seen I'd checked in is beyond me, so my daughter missed a whole morning off school to sit around a hospital for no reason!!
