An elderly friend of mine is attending the Lister as an inpatient within the urology Ward. Unfortunately his hearing aid stopped working. The nurse on the ward suggested that I take it to the audiology outpatients department, but I explained that this would not be possible due to my work commitments. Another suggestion was taking it to the QE2 or posting it. None of these seemed sensible to me, so I contacted the audiology department by phone. A very helpful member of staff spoke with me. She collected the faulty hearing aid, arranged to have it repaired and returned to him. The receptionist's "can do"attitude was refreshing and it was fantastic that she did exactly what she said she would do. Although the faulty hearing aid might be a minor issue compared with the reason for hospitalisation, having the repair done so quickly will help my friend's experience of hospital and his ability to understand the clinical staff on the ward.
"Great service from audiology"
