"I am a regular, if infrequent ..."

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I am a regular, if infrequent patient with the Neurology Dept. M Floor. The MS nurses in particular are wonderful - friendly, helpful and informative, and I always feel that my wellbeing is of paramount importance to them. The waiting area is clean, well-lit and supplied with refreshments and a tv, and lots of relevant leaflets.

The consultant that I see is also great - she clearly reads my notes before she sees me, and I'm treated as a person, not just a hospital number - it makes the visits much less daunting.

What could be improved

As with many other commenters, I feel the hospital is let down by its parking. There is a section set aside on the ground floor for disabled parking, and some of the attendants are very helpful when they see the blue badge. However, the multi-storey fills up quickly, and I have often ended up having to park some distance from the hospital and walk in, and that can be particularly difficult given the steep hills. I did try looking at the www.sypte.co.uk website as was suggested in hospital feedback, but I couldn't find an appropriate bus service - the website is not particularly easy to negotiate and the search engine comes up with nothing if you look for 'hospital'. Also, park and ride is not always suitable for disabled patients - the additional task of locating one of these schemes, catching one of the buses (with seating that can be uncomfortable or even painful if you're used to driving an adapted car) and repeating the journey after an appointment just adds to the stress of the journey.
