"hysterectomy, vaginal reconstruction with TVT..."

About: Arrowe Park Hospital

My GP referred me in 2011; I had a discussion with the consultant and then my bladder was tested with the specialist nurse. This is great fun if you can leave your dignity in your handbag and remember the nurse does this all day you need to be able to laugh at yourself as this is bizarre but it’s over quickly and then you may be booked in for this life changing surgery. The nurse you see before you go down she was funny she made me laugh! I was terrified having had a really bad experience with my last operation (not at Arrow park) and I had a still birth in arrow park so I was In a state before I even had the op. The nurse made me feel like she really cared and was special. The anesthetist did a wonderful job I woke up calm and relaxed on the ward, which is awesome as I had a complication that meant I was “under” for longer than expected. Anyway hospital food was alright, the ward staff were variable; one nurse not believing me when I said I was bursting for a wee as I had a catheter in. Fortunately for me another nurse came on night duty when I was crying with the pain of a full bladder and she fixed it, the catheter had moved so my bladder was not draining if you have TVT and this happens insist they scan your bladder they have the equipment to do so and its easily fixed. The rest of my time in Arrow park was fine it passed uneventfully and I was allowed home with strict instruction not to lift or do high-impact exercise (which is possibly why I needed a hysterectomy in the first place going straight back to exercise after the still birth, but I digress). Miracle life changing operation!! It took about 5 weeks for full recovery with no pain and no need for pain killers although I didn’t heavy lift for 9 months2 years later I have no none nothing in terms of pain, I can hold my urine for hours and the funniest thing is I sit on the loo and can’t believe how massive my wees are like I shout out “I'm still weeing!! I can’t believe it”. Also I am a woman but no periods! I listen to my girlfriends moan about periods and I am ever so slightly smug (is that mean?) Anyhow I thoroughly recommend all of the above procedures, advice be vocal and insist if you not sure and I promise hand on heart its life changing. Since my first pregnancy I suffered with womb pain and stress incontinence, now at 44 I can star jump trampoline laugh and laugh and laugh wait for the interval to pee and have lots of SEx that doesn’t hurt at all. In fact life is a lot better I did experience some numbness down there in some places for a while but it went away within 18 months so I had to improve my bravery in saying touch me somewhere I can feel, shades of Grey I'm not! The consultant and staff were brilliant the surgeon amazing and the aftercare good. Thank you Arrow Park hospital and thank you some more the brilliant staff in the diagnostic suite you are amazing!
