What I liked
The level of service my Mother received last night by the doctors and nurses in A & E was wonderful. All the doctors and nurses who treated by Mother last night were professional, courteous, informative and most importantly, caring. I would like to say a special thank you to My Mum’s nurse he went out of his way to bond with my Mother and humour her eccentric but lovely personality. He didn’t patronise as so many usually do, thank you to you all and especially to the nurse who brought me a cup of tea at 2.30am!
What could be improved
The A & E department had a difficult task last night trying to allocate patients to beds on wards and I can understand their and many patient’s confusion in having to wait hours for a bed, not good enough NHS, do something about this!
Anything else?
This experience was a very different one to my last in December 2008 when there weren’t enough cubicles in A & E to house all the sick and people were turned out as no beds were available at all. My Mother had to wait over 6 hours for an ambulance to take her home with a broken ankle. She has steps to her home and could not put weight on her broken ankle; at midnight we gave up waiting for an ambulance and asked friends and family to help light my Mother from a wheelchair to a car seat and from a car seat to her bedroom. Not a good experience of the ambulance service that night.
