I underwent tests for two different types of cancer at the end of August and was told by the doctor I'd need to come back for a further scan at 5/6 weeks and then to the consultant at 8 weeks - a long and anxious but necessary wait. When I tried to make the 8 week appointment at the desk I was told the Consultant had no template as he was a locum so it would be sent out to me. 3 weeks later I'd heard nothing and spoke to appointments who had no record of it and his secretary who said it would be dealt with and was in my notes.
When attending my scan appointment yesterday I checked at the department and was told by a pretty unhelpful woman that the doctor had been wrong to give me that time scale and they couldn't meet my expectations. The consultant is on holiday for a month and its highly unlikely I'll get the appointment in the timescale. She agreed to email her supervisor. I assume that the doctor had made a clinical decision that I should be seen in 8 weeks and not an administrative one.
Given the nature of my tests and the natural level of anxiety that these cause, I am disappointed and concerned at these delays and the attitude of the lack of care shown by the appointments staff.
