"Concerns about hygiene and confidentiality at Solihull A&E"

About: Solihull Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I went to A&E as I had a fall, whilst I was waiting I saw both doctors and nurses walking in and out of rooms whilst seeing patients with gloves on so they can get more equipment, completely unhygienic.

After I was treated, I was sitting in the waiting area to be seen again and I heard a few people being discharged within the waiting area, again completely confidential and then this happened to me, nurse came over went through all my notes and said I was free to go.

I was shocked at the lack of hygiene and confidentiality within the setting as this is what gets drummed into every health professional.

I am sorry to hear about this and am concerned by what you saw. I will speak to the senior nurse in the department about this. If you could let me have some more details that would be very helpful. I can be e-mailed on matthew.cooke@heartofengland.nhs.uk

My apologies and I hope you are now making a good recovery.

Matthew
