"Different staff attitudes on wards 31 and 33 at Western General"

I was admitted to ward 33 in July 2007. The nurses were very busy and had little time for me, let alone for any other patients.

There was a lady on the ward who had been segregated in a single room as she kept getting up to go to the bathroom without the nurses permission, she was calling out to the nurses and pressing the buzzer as each time she went to get up she collapsed onto the floor. I found the treatment of this lady to be atrocious. I asked the nurse if this lady was okay. The reply was: "We have removed her buzzer as she keeps pressing it."

The next day I was moved to ward 31 because I voiced concern for the lady who fell. On this second ward I found the nurses to be a lot more respectful and caring towards the people they were looking after.

I feel that the care within a hospital needs to be standardised with the standard set at a high level which should be monitered to ensure it does not fall below this level.
