"Ward 20"

About: Wexham Park Hospital

I recently got admitted to ward 20 for pain and swelling on my ovaries and was there for a total of 11days. From day one I was not kept informed of what was happening and I had to chase the nurses and doctors myself to even get seen. A total of 4days of my stay I hadn't even seen a doctor or had any other treatment other than pain killers given from the nurses. For a total of 5 days they tried treating me for constipation which was not the problem as bowel movements were fine and normal. They then told me that nothing could be done for these cysts on my ovaries even though I could hardly walk from the pain and swelling and sent me home on day 5 with paracetamol. This ended up with me returning to the ward and actually collapsing with the pain so got readmitted. They were still trying to treat me for different things other than my actual problem without even testing for it. The majority of the nurses were grumpy, rude and no enthusiasm. They made the beds daily but no fresh sheets the whole time. For my total of 11days there half of the ward were getting given mrsa packs to prevent it and half were not. It then got to a point that the pain and swelling was getting worse and the pain team was ment to visit me which then refused to see me. I finally had further scans after fighting for them and showed that the cysts was the problem and was put on the emergency list for an operation. I then had a senior doctor that evening mocking me on how I was moving around and said I was wasting his time and I didn't need this operation. The following day I had the operation which found that the cysts were not the problem but I had an adhesion and a couple of hours after the operation the pain and swelling had gone. I spent 11days there with doctors giving me completely different scenarios, treatments and attitudes! Through this whole stay I was in contact with PALS who were no better, for 4days I rang them every morning for them to visit me and a time was arranged for nobody to show. This is my local hospital and I will never be returning. I would rather travel a further 30mins. Not surprised that this hospital has been on the main news due to it being so poor!!!

Dear Ms Richards Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. I am sorry that you had a poor experience during your stay on ward 20. This is not the experience we are aiming for our patients. The Trust takes all feedback very seriously and is working to improve. I have passed your comments on to Alison Welch, Lead Nurse who will share your feedback with both the doctors and the nurses. Alison would like to discuss this with you in more detail please call 01753 633358. Best Wishes Claire Marshall Associate Director of Patient Experience and Public Involvement
