"Very understanding care after my miscarriage"

About: Arrowe Park Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

When I found out I was pregnant in January this year, my husband and I were delighted. At 7 weeks pregnant I attended the early pregnancy unit (epu) as I had some slight bleeding. I was told that the baby did not have a heart beat and had died.

The staff on the unit were so understanding. I know this is very common in early pregnancy but the staff never made me feel like it was just one of those things, they gave me full explanations and offered different options for the removal of the baby. I decided to go ahead with surgery and this was arranged for the next day.

I attended ward 54 as a day patient and was taken to theatre just after 9am. I was obviously very upset and my husband was allowed to come down with me, a nurse from the EPU stayed with me until I was put to sleep and answered all my questions that I had not thought of the previous day.

This was one of the most emotional times of my life but the care and understanding i was shown has meant a great deal. I think sometimes patients can be seen a just a name but i am glad to say this was not my experience.

I may not have show it at the time due to my state of mind but I am so very grateful to everyone for the care I was shown. Three weeks on and I’m still very upset but am now looking to the future. My husband and I are going to try again and hopefully next time all will be well. Thank you once again.
