"being told off for being in pain"

About: Huddersfield Royal Infirmary / General surgery

(as the patient),

At Christmas, I was admitted to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, with a very badly broken right wrist. I was told on Christmas eve by a surgeon at Calderdale Royal in Halifax that I needed a plate inserting into my right wrist and my information would be sent to Huddersfield. On arrival at the hospital, no information had been received and another surgeon was in charge of my care who decided I needed k wires instead. I had the operation and on waking in recovery I did not know where I was or could not remember what had happened to me. I was told to shut up crying and stop shouting. I was in extreme pain. I have never experienced pain like it before and to be told to shut up. It was embarrassing. I am a staff nurse who has worked for the NHS for over 30 years. I was put on a ward, which I can only describe as being like an asylum. I got no sleep and hardly any attention, because of the elderly who constantly shouted and called out. It was like a nightmare, the worst is that my wrist is not right and I will have to have another operation soon. I dread to think what will happen to me.
