"When asthma isn't asthma!"

About: Western Infirmary/Gartnavel General Western Infirmary/Gartnavel General / Respiratory Medicine

(as the patient),

Collapsed and taken to the Western A&E over a year ago. Seen immediately but that's the extent of the good care I recieved. Admitted to a ward and told very little. No tests were carried out but the Doctor somehow managed to diagnose me with asthma (which I've never had in my life). Ward was dirty and the majority of the staff couldn't care less about the patients and were extremely rude. I had to help feed some of the patients who were elderly and very disorientated. Discharged the next day with a bag of inhalers I didn't know how to use properly. Long story short, a year later, I was still very unwell despite my GP trying every inhaler and tablet on the market. Referred to Gartnavel hospital where extensive tests have showed that it's not asthma but acid reflux causing my breathing problems. Perhaps if they'd bothered to do some test when I was admitted, the last year of my life would have been normal!
