Went to my Doctor, had to see a nurse practitioner who doubled the dose of my Fentynl patch because of increased pain.
About four days later, I was admitted via ambulance to Grantham hospital who kept me in a couple of days with low heart rate below 50 beats a minute and chest pain and a rash on my back. I felt very lethargic and down. Was given beta blockers and sent home.
Next day, another ride in ambulance to Grantham. Again kept in, same problems. Getting worse this time, given some red liquid in a small bottle with a spray and told to take two puffs when I had chest pain again. I asked two puffs like an inhaler and the Matron said yes. Two days later I had a chest pain and inhaled only one puff which nearly killed me by taking my breath away. My carer drove straight to Grantham hospital kept in again. This I asked to be kept in till they sorted the problem. I had initial assessments inc scan etc. Told was on waiting list to go to Leicester hospital for a op to look at my heart veins
My condition was getting worse
I looked on Internet and found out I was being overdosed with Fentynl so I roped the patch off and told the Doctor when he came round what I had found out. He agreed and reduced the patch back to its original strength. My self diagnoses saved my life.
I found out you can only increase the dose by very small amounts and certainly not double the dose
I asked to be taken off Fentynl and went back on Bupromorphine.
I was very upset about the whole episode but never got an apology except from my Doctor who was very worried that I would sue him.
I have not but it made me feel like I should. The hospital made one mistake after another. I was so poorly they put me in a side ward as I kept getting very bad headaches. They then just seemingly kicked me out on the middle of the night to go back onto a ward. In my opinion I was treated awfully
