"Orthopaedic Trauma Ward"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital

So from A&E I have been admitted and put on an orthopaedic trauma ward . Unclean I'm in ward in D1 and the cleaner is going around wiping all the ward surfaces including my bed foot-board with the same cloth he just wiped the lid/lip of the surgical waste bin with. I have an open wound on my foot without a dressing and an active deep infection - scary with amputation possibilities in a bone surgery ward its downright limb threatening. And I can’t seem to get anyone to close and dress it although , in fairness , there have been a few promises of later... just after I've done this or that. Another unfortunate thing is that the bed I have been allocated is a manual one and to sit up or change position or prop up the pillows is to get out of bed all with an open foot wound. Try and get some help to get yourself settled – more chance than getting the super scarce medical care. Some of the stinkiest dirty toilets known to man can be found there. There’s always urine on the floor and shrapnel on the porcelain. The nurses don’t take any interest in enabling a good nights sleep to facilitate convalescence. Noisy activities and banging go on into the night and the lights are left on. Nurses are so oblivious and or too busy to care about this so it was a treat that during one night a loud electronic beep started up just at or near the nurses station at around 2am in the morning. Frantic and animated phone calls to Facilities and others to resolve the noise pollution affecting their quiet time. Sweet Justice . The snoring on the ward was mind altering but you cant blame the hospital for that, but it can make you and probably the staff cranky even if everything else is nearly going right. The nurses are always too busy doing something else more important which is valid as there is always someone who is in greater need. No one expects to be cared for immediately but this prioritisation must ensure they carry out their responsibilities and if they can’t they must raise concerns with their management.
