What I liked
The pre op care, consultant and theatre staff were fantastic. Post operatively there were breathing complications and the ward staff were concerned and caring. However, I was readmitted in extreme pain a week later and could not go on to the original surgical ward (there was an infection on the ward)...I couldn't eat because of tests I was about to have and I was in extreme pain. I called for help (the other patients were at breakfast in the day room). I heard a nurse saying that I was attention seeking because I couldn't have breakfast. Throughout my five day stay there were comments from other staff about there being 'nothing wrong with her'. In fact my bile duct was blocked by tiny gallstones that were left behind after having my gallbladder removed, I was jaundiced and in severe pain. The staff were great with their patients, who were cancer sufferers; I felt like I was an unwanted outsider.
What could be improved
A change of attitude.
Anything else?
I can't praise the theatre staff, pre and post op surgical staff enough. They were exceptional. However my second stay was so negative it detracted from the quality of the first.
