"Recent hospital admission"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Accident & Emergency Victoria Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I had a fall when on holiday in York in May. I cut my elbow and didn't think too much of it although it was sore.

On returning home on the Sunday my wound had worsened with my arm swelling. I went to my local nurse who advised me to go to Queen Margaret Hospital as the wound was infected. Upshot is I was admitted to the Victoria on the Monday night with an infection. I was in the hospital for 5 days.

The care I received was first class - the nurses, doctors etc. do a fantastic job. They work really hard. I was in ward 33 in the Vic - Ann, Andy, Ruth etc. can't remember all their names - they are amazing! !

My District Nurse has been dressing my wound for the past few weeks and it is now starting to heal. From start to finish I couldn't have asked for better care - I am really proud of the NHS. This is my first time in the hospital and they really looked after me.

Dear Shir

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. I was sorry to hear of your fall whilst on holiday, it's not good to have to endure pain at any time, but more so when you are meant to be relaxing! Having to stay in hospital for five days is far from ideal but it was good to hear that the care you received was of a high standard and that you were pleased with the way you were treated by staff. This is exactly what we aim to achieve in the NHS and I will be delighted to share your positive feedback with the staff and with the Management Team, who will greatly appreciate this.

I hope the healing continues

Kind regards

Louise Ewing, Patient Relations Manager, NHS Fife
