i have had very a very serious urology pain problem for many years and was referred to a consultant at sdc. although my problems are complex and probably nerve damage i was told really silly things like if you give up drinking tea the pain will go away ( it didnt!) also drink less water, drink more water etc. this wasted 2 years of my life. The consultant is unfriendly and unkind. i missed an appointment because of the norovirus and everytime i met her from then onwards she would mention it before i had even sat down. You missed an appointment. i felt bullied and abused. Appointments would only come through every 6 months even though my pain levels were through the roof and i often felt suicidal. the appointments lasted about 3-5 minutes at one point i tried to ask about blood in my urine and she had the door open for me to leave! The consultant gave me a drug which was not indicated for my complaint and i had a serious reaction to it and had serious heart palpitations and had to keep calling an ambulance. i kept trying to contact her for advice, as the hospital had not heard of the drug and the gp was mystified, but she offered no help. in the end i had to contact the national drugs agency myself to get help. fortunately i am now seeing a professor of urology in a different hospital who is efficient but mostly very kind! i will never return to the urology dept at sdc. ever ever!
