"Thanks for my malignant melanoma treatment in Nottingham"

My GP at Cropwell Bishop Surgery sent me to see Dr Varma at Nottingham QMC Hospital. He said I would have a mole removed as it was bleeding and causing problems. He also looked at another mole close by and said he would remove it the same time.

Three days later I had the moles removed under local anaesthetic. I returned to see Dr Varma for the results. He said that both moles were malignant melanomas. Unfortunately he had to go back in because the melanoma was deeper than he thought. The thickness was 3.1mm.

After a few days I went back and had the rest removed Dr Varma then passed me onto Professor Patel at the Oncology Department at the City Hospital. He arranged for me to have a CT scan. This showed that I had a nodule on my sixth rib on my left side. He arranged for the plastic surgery to have it removed. This they did and it turned out to be malignant.

I’m still under this department and I’m due for another CT scan in April to keep a check on me. I cannot fault the service I have received from my GP Dr Emma Alcock, Dr Varma and Professor Patel and his team. I fully appreciate the service that I have received from everybody concerned. It’s just as well I’m not a needle phobic because of the amount of injections. I just wonder what happens when somebody does suffer from this.

The only problem is when I have an appointment at the City Hospital due to the car parking. There are not too many disabled parking spaces. As the clinic is always in the afternoon it clashes with visiting times so to try and get a parking spot is almost impossible. This is why I use the Medlink bus from Queens Drive; it’s really useful.
