What I liked
Upon arrival by paramedic unit on transfer from Cheltenham to the cardiac ward I was greeted by the ward sister who quickly checked my details. The 2 healthcare assistants who then carried out an ECG etc were charming and cheerful and quickly made me feel welcome and relaxed. Every shift changeover the nurse responsible for my care came and introduced herself. At one point when I became a little unwell one evening my Phillipino nurse came and chatted with my wife and I for about an hour which made us feel so much better. The food here is good and on my ward there was a daytime Ward Housekeeper who was a great asset- She was great at caring for some of the elderly patients and doing their laundry etc.
I underwent specialist electrohysiological procedures and I would describe the standard of technology and skill exhibited in this department as 'Gold standard'.
What could be improved
It would be churlish to criticise, but as i was unable to use the showeroom there was only one bathroom with a shower over the bath where I could wash my hair. this will be soon sorted as a new ward is about to open.
Anything else?
If you need specialist coronary care this hospital must be one of the best in the world.
I have private medical cover available to me, but when you have a life threatening condition despite what you may read in the press the NHS comes up trumps.
