My mother died recently at Grantham hospital from a long standing heart condition. She was admitted to the Critical Care unit during her final hours and I have to say that though she has been in many different hospitals over the years, the care, consideration and respect that she received from the nurses and doctors on that ward went way beyond anything I have ever seen in any other hospital any time. I want to record how grateful I am that my mother was shown such genuine warmth from people who were complete strangers to her. I want to thank the doctor who, even at that late stage, was prepared to consider heart surgery to try and save her life. I want to thank the nurses who were so kind to myself and my brother during this time. Most of all I want to thank the anonymous person who thought to give her a cross to hold as she died as I know that would have meant everything to her. Losing someone you love is one of the hardest things to deal with, but knowing that she had the best possible end to her life makes it more bearable.
