Last Saturday evening around 9pm my Mother had a massive stroke. She was taken to Worcester Royal Infirmary by ambulance and without a doubt they saved her life. In times where the NHS is under constant fire for everything I felt I should write to thank all involved in saving her life. The treatment and care she received is second to none. I had spoken to my Mother at 7pm on the Saturday and told her I would phone on the Sunday morning to wish her a Happy Mothers Day. I phoned at 09. 30 and my Step Father answered. To be honest I woke him up. It turns out he had gotten home from the Hospital at 6am and fell asleep in the chair. Through his tears he told me that Mum had had a massive stroke at 9pm Saturday night and when he left her at 5am she was paralysed down the right side, could not speak and her face had completely dropped on the right hand side. At this time I was at a Car Boot Sale in Dagenham, beside the Ford Motor Works in London. My wife and I left straight from there and drove to Worcester. On the way I phoned my son, who lives in Colchester and told him what had happened. He left for Worcester 30 minutes later. We arrived at 1pm where my Step-Father was waiting to take us in to see Mum. I was dreading it and I could see he was. When we got there he broke down, but from joy, as she looked at him and mouthed hello. The droop on the mouth was gone and although she was speaking very very quietly she was speaking. he could not believe the transformation. I took time to speak to a nurse who was absolutely fantastic. She explained to me what had happened to Mum and that as they had caught it in a certain time they had been able to save a lot of the damage worsening. My son runs a Radiography department in a Private Hospital in Colchester as a Radiographer so also explained to us all that the critical point was getting her in quickly and getting the right treatment done as quick as possible. I can only say on behalf of my family and my Mother`s friends a massive thank you to all involved in the A + E and then the AMU unit where we visited her, for without you I am sure the outcome would of been very different. My Step-Father phoned me and hour or or so ago to update me and tell me that Mum`s voice was getting stronger and that she is able to walk (2 things we worried would not happen again).
