"Pleased with occupational health appointment nhs Dumfries & galloway "

About: NHS Dumfries and Galloway

(as the patient),

I referred myself due to an ongoing problem with my shoulder whilst awaiting an orthopaedic out patient appointment. I went prepared ie describing my symptoms and the time line, the modifications I have made due to my restricted functioning and my discussion with my immediate line manager around helping me to stay at work.

The doctor who saw me engaged with me right away, he was interested in what my job was to gain a perspective, he listened to me, he advised me re pain management and the different groups of drugs used for pain, he revised the arrangements with me for me to remain at work, and he made a further appointment with me to review my situation.

I left the appointment feeling hopeful and I felt valued for my efforts to remain at work with whatever support is necessary.

Dear Damselinadress

Thank you for taking the time to submit your very welcome compliment to Patient Opinion relating to the positive experience you had when attending Occupational Health. Furthermore it is a kind gesture to acknowledge other staff in the organisations we work for. So often due to the pressures in our own workplace we fail to remember other staff facing their own problems when endeavouring to deliver a quality service.

Occupational Health is concerned with the promotion and maintenance of the well being of all staff and it is great to hear you were able to build up such a good rapport with staff working there. The fact you self referred yourself with such a positive attitude and motivation to stay at work, would have been a key factor in successfully building this rapport. This attitude is not only essential for your own sense of well being but shows your consideration for the professional team you are a part of.

In the meantime I hope the revised work arrangements and the pain management regime have improved your situation.

I wish you well in the future and trust the orthopaedic issue is soon resolved.

Kind regards

Hilary

Many thanks for your reply it was much appreciated. I think positivity breeds positivity and whilst I am not out of the woods yet I am remaining upbeat. I have further appointments to attend in respect of my health problem and I am hoping that these experiences will also help maintain my wish to remain at work. Keeping channels of communication open is essential.

I shall continue to share my experiences on Patient Opinion as every experience matters.

Best wishes
