"Extraordinarily positive and kind ..."

About: Royal Sussex County Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Extraordinarily positive and kind attitude of ALL staff encountered on the Lewes Ward, from the earliest contact with the Department Manager to arrange dates through to Nurses, both on the ward and particularly theatre nurses who dealt with my nerves in exactly the right manner, using both kindness and humor, and the Doctors. I could not fault their approach and friendliness both whilst I was in hospital and during on-going treatment on the Ward as an 'out patient'. Everyone I encountered seemed to be committed to making my feel as comfortable and safe as possible.

What could be improved

My only criticism is the 'waiting' area for day or overnight patients for this Ward. It really is pretty appalling and does not in any way reflect the rest of care received. Given that first impressions are important, the Hospital Trust really does not have this right. Expecting (nervous/wary/uncomfortable) patients to simply sit in this room with little or no input from staff until they come and get you is a poor start.
