"Patient Charter Breach"

About: Worthing Hospital

Self referral made in Feb, but unable to choose own date. Appt given was for 13 weeks after referral. Seen by a Registrar not a Consultant. Informed that existing scan was not good enough and referred for another u/s scan +/- needle biopsy and to come back 2 months later (now 21 weeks post referral). Scan done but no biopsies taken, then a week before my appt received 2 letters to say my clinic had been cancelled - no explanation - and given appts at the beginning of Oct and the end of Aug! I had to call to sort this out. I tried to contact the ENT dept but they didn't return my calls. Another appt arrived for the 24 Jul and this time I was seen by a Senior House Officer who had to go and find the Registrar I had seen before as she didn't know what was wrong either. I was then sent for blood tests - which could have been done on my first appt. The Registrar was surprised that no needle biopsies had been taken as requested and was not satisfied with the report again. So I am 7 months post referral, my problem is worse, I have not been seen by a Consultant and this dept is in serious breach of the Patients Charter. I had already been losing confidence in this hospital but after reading the previous comments am seriously concerned that there seems to be a lackadaisical approach to patient diagnosis in ENT.
