"Gastrointestinal wards - wonderful staff"

My husband has been an inpatient several times in MRI for different ailments. He is 88 and on the whole, he has been treated with dignity, respect and professionalism. The service from doctors, nursing staff and auxiliaries has been great while the latest technology and the operations he has had have been amazingly good. The MRI could obviously benefit from more nursing staff who are usually rushed off their feet; it would be strange if they didn't occasionally forget things in such a stressful job. The only criticism I have is the lack of communication between consultants and patients; hard to get hold of a consultant and even harder to get them to talk to patient's families. The main horror of the MRI is those awful, awful meals. The hospital board should be forced to eat them every day for a month; they would soon revert to having their own kitchens producing a limited menu of freshly cooked food. At present, there is nothing fresh, the salads are old and crumpled. Everything else is covered in wheaty sauces/gravies to make them microwavable. Bad news for people with wheat intolerances. Certainly not tempting to my husband whose appetite is poor to start with. A big downer from such an outstanding hospital.
