"Over long Kidney Biopsy"

About: Russells Hall Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Russels Hall Hospital, Dudley as a day case for a kidney biopsy. Everything was going well as the consultant was explaining to me what she was doing so I could be prepared for what was to come.

However, things started to go wrong when they couldn't obtain a second sample due to the position of my kidney. A consultant was called to continue the procedure but basically they seemed to ignore everything I said. For example, they would ask me to breathe in and 30 seconds later they would tell me to breathe in again (forgetting to tell me to breath out). It seemed like they were just jabbing the needle in any old how causing me extreme pain (I snapped at them at one point to give me warning as to what they were about to do, so I could be prepared).

They didn't warn me when they were taking the sample so I would jump as there is a loud snap sound. It got to the point where I said to myself if they hurt me again I'm going to jump off the table and give him what for. I was supposed to be in there for about 40 minutes, most of the time taken to prepare for the biopsy but I was in there for almost two hours.
