"My experience of QMC"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / General surgery

(as the patient),

In February this year I attended QMC to remove some gall stones and for a heart attack. The best things about my treatment was the care and kindness of the consultant and nursing staff and the reassurance about a difficult procedure undertaken. However, at one point the treatment of a very noisy and disturbed elderly patient resulted in creating a high degree of stress to a lot of the other patients and I think was a contribution to my heart attack. I was not made to feel embarrassed or angry but the mixed ward situation is not acceptable particularly in the case of female patients.

I would like to particularly like to thank Dr. Wright the consultant who carried out the procedure for my gall stones. He was exceptional in his professionalism manor and kindness shown to me, I am very grateful.

I think one area which requires more thought and attention is the difficulty which I and other patients experience is due to the size of the hospital. Accessing various departments and wards is a very daunting experience particularly when you are ill and not feeling up to walking alone miles of corridors, up and down lifts and then also asked sometimes to report at 7am. I do not know what the solution is other than to create smaller units as I feel the sheer size of QMC makes it a victim of its own successes.
