"Medical care good and caring attitude outstanding."

About: Bristol Royal Infirmary

My elderly mother was admitted to Ward 10 as an emergency with breathing problems. She was 90 years of age and after a few days we were told she had had a significant heart attack and was in heart failure with a chest infection. Once they had made their diagnosis, the medical staff kept us informed. It was sometimes difficult to get hold of them to ask them what was going on but we came to understand how busy they were and also what a busy respiratory ward it is. What stood out was the amazing high quality of care she received and the caring attitude of the staff. She loved them all and couldn't praise them highly enough. When it was decided they could do no more for her medically, we were disappointed to learn she had to be fast-tracked to a nursing home, although we understood why. Once she was there she only lived a few more days but her last few weeks in the BRI were happy and she was well-cared for by caring staff which was what we would all want for our loved-ones. In this day and age of the poor reputation earned by the NHS and, being such a large hospital, we were impressed.

Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the BRI. We will ensure that this reaches the staff on Ward 10, who will be glad to know that they made your mother so happy and comfortable during her stay with us.
