"Traumatic experience"

About: Northwick Park Hospital

I am writing this as the husband to a wife who recently gave birth at Northwick park labour ward. We are both extremely dissatisfied. We had hoped to be in the birthing centre but unfortunately it was full. We were kept in triage for 3 hours, my wife was in agonising pain with contractions at 3 minutes apart and yet it was suggested we walk up to the antenatal department. There were clearly no beds available. We had people either side of us separated by a thin curtain and we were left to our own devices. We were left for so long that I searched for a midwife and complained that my wife needed pain relief which was not forthcoming. In addition to this the midwife who took over had misinformation. My wife was 3cm dilated at 530 and three hours later the midwife stated my wife was 2cm dilated an error on her part. In addition this we experienced the following: a male stranger walked in whilst my wife was in labour The midwife called the doctor to give an epidural when my wife was 9cm dilated. I must say the doctor who delivered the baby due to the fact his heart rate had dropped was excellent and baby was born healthy. The experience however was awful and I would not return. There was a laid back approach that bordered upon being negligent.
